This week on Intelligent Talk Radio, Patriotism; How It's Used And Abused In Our Culture: Our guest, George Kateb is a William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Politics, Emeritus, at Princeton and the author of "Patriotism and Other Mistakes". Kateb urges greater vigilance in political life and cautions against "mistakes" not usually acknowledged as such. Patriotism is one such mistake, too often resulting in terrible brutality and injustices. He asks us to consider how commitments to ideals of religion, nation, race, ethnicity, manliness, and courage find themselves in the service of immoral ends, and he exhorts us to remember the dignity of the individual (Yale University Press, 2006).
Also, Guns, God and Church: Ken Pagano, the Pastor of New Bethel Church in Louisville, KY, is inviting his congregation to bring their unloaded guns to service to celebrate freedom, the Second Amendment and the Fourth of July. Whatever one thinks about guns, gun ownership, or gun laws, do we really need any more religious leaders officiating over a marriage between faith and firearms? How can we advocate responsible gun ownership without being up in arms? Pastor Pagano joins this discussion about freedom in the United States. Listen Below.
