Posted by Irwin in reaction to James James Carville’s comments about Bill Richardson as Juda
James Carville’s description of Governor Bill Richardson as Judas for supporting Barack Obama rather than Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for President is arrogance that goes beyond Carville’s usual entertaining way and is extremely inappropriate for a senior advisor and supporter of the Clinton campaign. Presumably, President Clinton appointed Gov. Richardson to influential positions because he felt Richardson was capable and effective and not because he would be able to cash in on a political debt. But even if one assumes as Carville sadly does that nothing in politics is really clean, as comparing Richardson to Judas implies, if one carries forth the analogy, then the Clintons are Jesus betrayed. I happen to believe that Hillary would make an excellent president but comparing her and Bill to Jesus is as manipulative and combustible a use of religion as anything the religious right does and should upset every Christian in this country.
