In reaction the the press conference announcement below Irwin Kula says:

It is time we all face up to:

1. We are in the midst of renegotiating what we mean by the separation of church and state – and a lot of people are and will be uncomfortable.
2. This is a great thing for this country, and indicates tremendous health (contrary to the left’s assertion) and a historic moment of pluralism (contrary to what the afar right thinks).
3. Right wing fundamentalists who want to Christianize this country and secular fundamentalists who think that there is such thing as neutral space are both wrong.
4. Their fears – on the right that the country is going to hell in a basket and on the left that religion has so often been oppressive though legitimate, will need to be addressed.
5. Most Americans are in the middle and it is up to us to appreciate the new richness that is possible in a public square in which Americans bring all of whom they are to the public square, but do so conscious of their fellow citizen.
