This week on Intelligent Talk Radio, Spanking Children and Affect On Intelligence: In the best and worst of neighborhoods, violence against our children is a real and ongoing problem. After 40 years of research and hundreds of studies, it turns out there is no upside to spanking. On the contrary, it may lower your child's IQ. In a recent study of 32 countries around the world, kids who were never spanked had a 5 point higher IQ than those that were spanked. How do we start this global conversation about stopping spanking now? Dr. Andy Grogan-Kaylor, Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan joins this discussion.
Also, Weapons in School: No one wants violence or weapons in our schools. However, how can we balance common sense and zero tolerance on weapons. Are we overreacting to what is a threat and potential weapon from what may be a utensil for lunch? How can we redefine what our children's safety means? Tom Mannard, Executive Director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and President of States United to Prevent Gun Violence helps us understand this disconnect. Listen Below.
